How do I use Elowen?
Pick a companion, tap the call button, and start talking. Elowen listens (on-device), replies with a natural voice, and the avatar speaks with you in real time. Everything works without sending your voice anywhere.

Do I need an internet connection?
No — not by default. Elowen runs fully on-device. An internet connection is used only if you choose to enable a Custom API in Settings, in which case your typed or spoken chat text is sent to the endpoint you configure (see Privacy Policy below).

Is my microphone audio uploaded?
Never. Your microphone audio is processed on-device for speech recognition and is never transmitted to any server.

Who are the characters?
All companions in Elowen are virtual, fictional characters rendered by an on-device avatar engine. They are not real people and do not represent any individual.

Privacy Policy

Applies to: Elowen for iOS/iPadOS and its related one-time purchase features.
Core Commitment: We respect your privacy. By default, Elowen collects no personal data and transmits nothing off your device.

1. What Data We Collect
Short answer: In default mode, we collect no personally identifiable information (PII).
The core experience runs entirely offline and requires no account or internet connection. Therefore:

• ❌ We do not collect your name, email, or phone number.
• ❌ We do not collect your precise location.
• ❌ We do not collect device identifiers for advertising.
• ❌ We do not integrate third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

2. Optional Custom API (Bring-Your-Own-Key)
Elowen lets you optionally connect a third-party model API (for example OpenAI-compatible endpoints such as DeepSeek or Qwen) by entering your own Base URL, API Key, and Model name in Settings. This feature requires your explicit opt-in consent inside the app; no data is transmitted to any third party until you agree and enable it. Before any data is sent, the app shows an in-app consent screen that (a) explains exactly what data is shared, (b) identifies the recipient as the specific endpoint you enter, and (c) requires your explicit permission. The app transmits data to a third party only after you grant that consent.

• 🔑 Your API key is sent to the third-party endpoint you configure (as the Bearer token for authentication), and is stored only in your device's local sandbox (via iOS Keychain / UserDefaults). It is never transmitted to us or any server we operate.
• 🌐 When enabled, your chat text, the conversation context, and any long-term memory Elowen remembers about you (such as your name, preferences, habits, and personal facts) are sent directly from your device to the endpoint you configure, over HTTPS. The destination server is operated by the third party you chose, not by us.
• 🎙️ Your microphone audio is never sent — speech is transcribed on-device before any text leaves your phone.
• ⚖️ You are responsible for complying with the terms and policies of whatever third-party service you configure. The app only transmits your data after you have granted in-app consent, and you should only connect endpoints whose own privacy practices provide protection equivalent to this policy. The developer of Elowen is not a party to, and is not responsible for, the third party's handling of your data.

If you do not enable a Custom API, no conversation data ever leaves your device.

3. How Data is Stored
All data generated by the app is stored locally on your device:

• 📱 Stored within your device using Apple's native sandboxing.
• 🔐 Inaccessible to other apps or network services.
• 🗑️ Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all related local records.

4. Device Permissions
Elowen requests only the permissions it needs:

• 🎤 Microphone — for on-device speech recognition (audio never leaves the device).
• 📷 Camera — optional, only if you turn on Picture-in-Picture; off by default.
• 📸 Photo Library (add-only) — only when you save a screen recording.
• 🚫 No Local Network permission is required (the avatar runs via an in-app local resource scheme, not a network service).

5. Children's Privacy
Elowen is rated 17+ and is intended for adults. It must not be used by anyone under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.

6. Availability
Elowen is not offered on the App Store in mainland China. This policy is provided for users in other regions.

7. Updates to This Policy
We may update this policy to comply with the latest App Store guidelines. Updated policies are published on this page; continued use constitutes acceptance.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Elowen (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service.

2. License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use.

3. Eligibility — Age 17+
You must be at least 17 years old to use Elowen. By using the App you confirm you meet this requirement.

4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Elowen to:

• Generate or seek sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualizes minors;
• Generate illegal content, including but not limited to violence, self-harm, or the facilitation of illegal acts;
• Generate hate speech, harassment, or targeted abuse;
• Jailbreak, reverse-engineer, or tamper with the App or its models;
• Violate the terms of any third-party API you choose to configure.

5. AI-Generated Content & Disclaimer of Responsibility
Elowen's replies are produced by an artificial intelligence model — either the on-device model bundled with the App, or a third-party model endpoint you configure via Custom API. Accordingly:

• The developer is not the author of AI-generated content and is not liable for it. You are responsible for the prompts you enter and the content you generate.
• AI responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. They are not a substitute for professional, medical, legal, or mental-health advice.
• All companions are virtual, fictional characters and do not represent real individuals.
• If you enable a Custom API, the content is generated by the third party you selected; their terms and policies apply to that content.

6. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property in the App (excluding third-party model outputs) is owned by us. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute it without prior written consent.

7. Disclaimer of Warranty
The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will be correct.

8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including any reliance on AI-generated content.

9. Third-Party Services
If you configure a Custom API, that service is independent of us. We are not responsible for its availability, content, privacy practices, or terms.

10. Changes & Termination
We may modify these Terms at any time. We may terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or upon request from Apple or regulators.
